Susan called to the Bar in 2021 as a Lord Hope Scholar. Her areas of interest include Child Law and Family, Public and Administrative Law, Discrimination, Human Rights, and Criminal / Regulatory. Prior to turning to law, Susan worked in the Civil Service for 12 years working in a rage of department. Amongst other areas, she gained experience of Pension Law and Immigration. Susan was admitted as a solicitor in 2006 and has a lengthy career in both private practice and Local Government, undertaking a range of civil litigation in areas including child, education, family, employment and housing law. She has conducted cases in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court and various tribunals. Susan provided regulatory and legal advice to Local government committees, including Planning , Licensing, Education, and Financial Scrutiny. Susan has experience of criminal defence work at all levels up to the High Court and maintains an interest in this area of work. Susan sits as a JP in Edinburgh Sheriff Court and is a member of The Scottish Sentencing Council. Susan has a particular interest in Child Law. She is a Curator ad Litem and Reporting Officers in Edinburgh and was appointed a Safeguarder in 2013. Susan graduated from Glasgow University with the degree of MA. Thereafter, she graduated from The University of Strathclyde with an LLB and LLM (Intellectual Property and Telecommunication Law). Prior to Devilling Susan worked as a supervision solicitor at Strathclyde University Law School and has a personal interest in developing and presenting training.
