David called to the Bar in 2022 following a number of years practicing as an Employment solicitor with a leading litigation organisation in the public sector.
As a solicitor, David dealt with a broad range of employment disputes and regularly appeared in Employment Tribunals across Scotland. He has represented clients in multi-week evidential hearings on complex employment disputes. He has also argued a number of hearings on preliminary issues such as time bar. David has advised on a large variety of employment law issues arising in the public sector. David is particularly experienced in issues relating to regulated professionals, especially medics, and the interaction of employment proceedings and professional disciplinary matters. During his time as a solicitor, David developed a particular interest and expertise in discrimination cases arising under the Equality Act 2010.
Prior to specialising in employment law, David dealt primarily with professional liability issues. He has represented large public sector clients in the Court of Session along with counsel, and has appeared in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland. David’s previous role involved working with medical professionals, and David has significant experience in medical negligence cases.
David has a particular interest in public law, judicial review and human rights. He has a strong academic background in these areas, and prior to qualifying as a solicitor spent time doing voluntary work in a number of countries. He worked directly with refugee populations in Scotland and in Greece, and lived in Zambia for some time in an international development role. David’s devilling principally focused on public law and judicial review proceedings, and he developed particular expertise in this area. David was appointed a Junior Standing Junior Counsel to the Office of the Advocate General in 2022 whilst still a devil, and has frequently appeared in the First Tier Tribunal.
David was awarded a Lord Hope scholarship by the Faculty of Advocates.
