General information
Matthew qualified as a solicitor at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service following a decade of service as a police officer. He also worked as a policy, press and casework officer in the UK and Scottish parliaments, and held several elected roles in university governance.
As a Procurator Fiscal, Matthew regularly appeared in the Sheriff Courts, prosecuting a broad range of criminal matters and conducting dozens of trials. His specialist roles included a seat with the Crown’s appeals unit, briefing Advocates Depute on High Court matters.
Throughout his devilling, Matthew appeared in front of senior judges on three occasions through a pro bono appeals scheme. At the University of Edinburgh, he was the recipient of three law prizes and graduated with distinction.
Matthew seeks to build a mixed practice in criminal and public law.
