Themis Advocates member Michael Upton acted for the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal in opposing former M.P. Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh’s petition for judicial review. Miss Ahmed-Sheikh had been found guilty of professional misconduct by the Tribunal, which, making its usual award against a solicitor who has been prosecuted successfully, ordered her to pay the expenses of her prosecution on its usual basis of solicitor-&-client, client-paying. She sought judicial review of the decision on expenses. The proceedings were opposed by both the Tribunal and the Law Society of Scotland at a hearing in September. On Friday 13th December Lord Ericht dismissed her petition.
